April 2019 marks the tenth anniversary of local man, Andrew Coe having worked at Norton based firm The Original Baker. Despite Andrew being profoundly deaf, he has worked with pastry throughout his career, initially in Scotland and later moving to Malton.

Andrew was employed by Gill Ridgard, the founder of successful gourmet pastry business, Yorkshire Baker initially in 2009. The business, which supplies premium pastry products to independent food-retailers changed its name in 2013 and has rebranded again to The Original Baker in February this year.

Andrew is a playful character, much loved by his colleagues who were delighted to see him receive an engraved watch along with the surprise unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the wall of his workstation.

Gill Ridgard, Managing Director of The Original Baker presented the watch to Andrew and said “We didn’t want the day to go by without acknowledging and thanking Andrew for his hard work. He is a very, very important part of the team”.
