Our story begins in Nottinghamshire with the person who is the ‘original’ baker, Gill Ridgard. Having grown up on the family farm, Gill developed an early appreciation of fine, fresh produce and high-quality cuts of meat. Ever learning from the influences around her, she worked in the family farm shop to develop her butchery skills and took inspiration from her Mother’s delicious home baking.

In 2007 Gill fell in love with the picturesque market town of Malton, the self-titled ‘food capital of Yorkshire’, and made it her home. It was here that she created Yorkshire Baker, taking her time to cook gourmet pastry products using only the finest ingredients. Her delicious hand-crafted sausage rolls, pies and pasties quickly became a big hit with delis and farm shops across North Yorkshire.
Gill forged a partnership with Cranswick plc in 2012 to upscale her artisan techniques for a wider audience in the major retailers. By the completion of her 5-year directorship in 2018, she had overseen the construction of a superb, bespoke production facility for premium pastries and guided a raft of butchers and bakers in her hand-crafting techniques to form the very successful Cranswick Gourmet Pastry.
During this time, Gill recognised the need to continue cultivating the original distribution business and through a mutual contact was introduced to Cheryl. Having previously run successful businesses, Cheryl had spent a lengthy period with a national Charity developing extensive networks of voluntary fundraising support.
A farmer at heart, Gill’s kinship for the innovative origins of independent farm shops and their honest ‘farm to fork’ ethos beckoned her back to the founding business. The united force of Gill and Cheryl now working together combines their shared passion for creating extraordinary products reinforced with exceptional customer support.
Following their strong principles, the business has gained a much sought-after reputation as a leader in this niche, but rapidly expanding area of artisan food and now supplies independent deli’s across the nation.
