The Original Baker celebrates five wins at the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards 2026
The Original Baker is proud to celebrate five award wins at the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards 2026, marking another strong moment for the Yorkshire bakery and reinforcing its reputation for premium savoury baking crafted with care, consistency and flavour at its core.
Leading this year’s results was the Smoked Salmon & Crème Fraîche Quiche, which achieved a Gold Award, while four further products were recognised across the savoury range:
-
Gold Award — Smoked Salmon & Crème Fraîche Quiche
-
Silver Award — Hog Roast Pork Pie
-
Silver Award — Slow Roast Pork & Cider Pie
-
Silver Award — Chicken, Leek & Wholegrain Mustard Pie
-
Bronze Award — Hot Honey, Bacon & Brie Gourmet Roll
These latest awards build on an exceptional 2025, where The Original Baker secured seven Farm Shop & Deli awards, alongside recognition at the Great Taste Awards and the British Pie Awards. With 2026 already off to a strong start, the focus remains the same: creating products with real depth of flavour, dependable performance in service, and the kind of craftsmanship that helps premium deli, retail and foodservice counters stand apart.
Five award-winning products, each with their own character
This year’s results showcase the breadth of The Original Baker range - from rich and refined quiche, to deeply savoury pies, to more contemporary food-to-go flavour combinations. Each winning product reflects a slightly different side of the range, but all are united by the same commitment to ingredient quality, texture, finish and overall eating experience.
Gold Award: Smoked Salmon & Crème Fraîche Quiche
Awarded Gold, the Smoked Salmon & Crème Fraîche Quiche is a product that brings elegance and richness together in a format that feels both indulgent and easy to serve. The combination is a classic one, but what makes it stand out is the balance: the smoked salmon brings savoury depth and gentle saltiness, while the crème fraîche softens the profile with a subtle tang and a smooth, creamy finish.
The result is a quiche with a premium feel throughout - visually appealing, well balanced and versatile enough to work across deli counters, lunch menus and café cabinets. It has the kind of refined character that elevates a savoury range while still feeling familiar and approachable to the customer.
Silver Award: Hog Roast Pork Pie
The Hog Roast Pork Pie, which received a Silver Award, takes one of Britain’s best-loved savoury formats and gives it added richness and personality. Inspired by the fuller, more indulgent flavour associated with hog roast, it offers a stronger sense of occasion than a standard pork pie while still delivering the substance and familiarity customers expect.
This is a product built around comfort and generosity. The filling is rich and satisfying, while the pastry provides the crisp structure needed to make the pie feel robust, premium and well made. It is the kind of product that sits naturally in farm shops and premium deli counters, where shoppers are looking for something traditional, but just distinctive enough to feel special.
Silver Award: Slow Roast Pork & Cider Pie
Also taking Silver, the Slow Roast Pork & Cider Pie is a product that speaks directly to The Original Baker’s approach to savoury baking: slow-developed flavour, comforting character and a strong sense of craft. The pork is paired with cider to create a filling with real depth - rich and savoury at its base, but lifted by the gentle sweetness and brightness the cider brings.
Encased in crisp pastry, the result is a pie that feels hearty and complete, with enough complexity to stand out while remaining rooted in familiar British flavour. It is a strong example of how carefully chosen ingredients can create something that feels both traditional and elevated at the same time.
Silver Award: Chicken, Leek & Wholegrain Mustard Pie
The Chicken, Leek & Wholegrain Mustard Pie, another Silver Award winner, demonstrates how subtle refinement can make a classic format even more appealing. Chicken and leek is a combination customers know and trust, but the addition of wholegrain mustard gives the filling an extra layer of warmth and savoury character.
Rather than overpowering the pie, the mustard works in support of the main ingredients, adding gentle depth and a slight sharpness that lifts the creaminess of the filling. It is a pie that feels comforting and familiar, but with enough detail and balance to make it memorable. For retailers and operators, that makes it especially valuable — a recognisable favourite with a more premium edge.
Bronze Award: Hot Honey, Bacon & Brie Gourmet Roll
Completing the line-up, the Hot Honey, Bacon & Brie Gourmet Roll achieved a Bronze Award, offering a more modern and indulgent take on savoury bakery. Built around contrast, it combines the sweetness and gentle heat of hot honey with the smoky richness of bacon and the creamy softness of brie.
This creates a product that feels contemporary and flavour-forward, but still highly accessible. It has the comfort and familiarity needed for broad appeal, while the sweet heat element gives it a more current, premium food-to-go feel. It is exactly the sort of product that can help refresh a savoury counter and capture customers looking for something a little different.
Recognition that reflects consistency as much as flavour
Awards like these are not just a reflection of good ideas or standout flavours. They also recognise the quality, consistency and attention to detail needed to deliver premium bakery products to a high standard time and again.
That matters because today’s farm shops, delis, cafés and foodservice operators need products that work hard in more ways than one. They need to look appealing on counter, deliver genuine eating satisfaction, and perform reliably during service. The products recognised in this year’s Farm Shop & Deli Awards are strong examples of that balance in action.
New for National Pie Week: innovation with a different format
Alongside these latest award wins, The Original Baker is also marking National Pie Week with the launch of two new innovation lines: the Mash-Topped Pork Stroganoff Pie and the Mash-Topped Country Cottage Pie.
These new additions bring a different format to the category, combining a crisp pastry base with rich savoury fillings and a rustic mash topping. Designed as a complete eating experience, they deliver contrast in texture and a more contemporary take on comfort food, while still offering the practicality and service performance needed for premium food-to-go and deli environments.
They reflect the same thinking that sits behind the wider award-winning range: familiar flavours, carefully reworked to create products that feel distinctive, relevant and commercially useful.
Crafted in Malton, North Yorkshire
From quiches and gourmet rolls to award-winning pies and new category innovation, The Original Baker range is crafted in Malton, North Yorkshire, using British meat from farmers we trust and carefully sourced ingredients selected for flavour, consistency and quality.
These latest award wins are another strong endorsement of that approach — and a reminder that when craftsmanship, flavour and service performance come together, the results speak for themselves.
