New for 2026: Pork Stroganoff Pie & Cottage Pie with Rustic Mash
At The Original Baker, new products don’t start with trends; they start with how food is actually used in the real world: what works in a deli counter, what plates up quickly in a café, and what gives operators confidence during busy service. That same thinking sits behind our latest savoury pastry launches - the Mash-topped Pork Stroganoff and Country Cottage Pies - two familiar dishes reimagined as multi-texture pies that perform just as well in food-to-go as they do on a restaurant menu.
Designed as a Complete Eating Experience
Both new lines are built as a multi-sensory, multi-texture experience, a modern format that turns familiar comfort food into something you can really feel as well as taste. Each pie brings together a crisp, golden pastry base for structure and bite, a rich savoury filling developed for depth, and a rustic mashed potato topping that adds softness, comfort and visual warmth.
It’s that contrast - crisp and creamy, hearty and light - that makes them feel genuinely substantial and satisfying. Instantly recognisable, reassuring at first glance, and confident on the plate.
Mash-Topped Pork Stroganoff Pie
Our Pork Stroganoff Pie takes a classic, creamy comfort dish and translates it into a format that works for modern service, without losing the soul of what makes stroganoff so satisfying.
We start with Red Tractor–assured British pork, sourced only from farmers we trust who uphold the same standards we do. The meat is carefully prepared and seasoned on site, then gently slow-cooked and pulled to build real depth and a tender, generous texture through the filling.
The result is rich and savoury, with the rounded warmth you expect from a stroganoff-style profile, balanced so it holds under heat without turning heavy or runny. The mash topping softens the bite and brings comfort, while the pastry base keeps everything contained, crisp, and properly satisfying.
It’s indulgent without being excessive - a proper main that works just as well as a counter hero as it does as the centre of a plated meal.
Mash-topped Cottage Pie
Cottage Pie is one of the most familiar dishes in British food, and that familiarity is exactly its strength. It’s comforting, reassuring, and instantly understood at first glance.
But we still treat it like a craft product. We take the time to roast our own vegetables for deeper flavour and natural sweetness, and we make our own gravy in-house, so we can control the ingredients and seasoning from start to finish - building a filling that tastes properly rounded, not just “salty and brown”.
In this format, that rich, savoury meat filling sits inside a crisp pastry base, then it’s topped generously with rustic mash. The result is a pie that feels immediately recognisable, but delivers a more layered eating experience - crisp and creamy, hearty and light - with real visual presence.

And the mash isn’t decorative. It adds comfort, helps balance moisture, and gives a plated-ready finish straight out of the oven.
Built for Food-to-Go and plated service
These pies are designed to move easily across service styles.
In a deli or food-to-go setting, they work as a clear, premium main — substantial, comforting and easy to choose.
In cafés, pubs and casual restaurants, the same product becomes a one-touch meal solution: add vegetables and gravy, and it steps up naturally into a full plated dish.
That versatility allows operators to:
-
Use one product in multiple menu positions
-
Build a clear value ladder from counter to table
-
Increase spend without increasing prep time
Made to Perform in the Real World
Both lines are built with service in mind:
-
They bake consistently
-
They hold their shape
-
The mash stays stable under heat
-
The pastry stays crisp
-
They package cleanly for takeaway
No finishing work. No re-engineering in the kitchen. Just heat, serve and sell with confidence.
Why We Launched Them
We launched the Pork Stroganoff Pie and Cottage Pie topped with rustic mash because we weren’t seeing anything similar in the market, and we felt they would sit naturally alongside our existing range while widening the offer. Pies often fall into one of two camps: very traditional and straightforward, or “premium” in a way that can feel overly fussy. We wanted to keep the comfort and familiarity, but introduce a more modern, multi-texture format - without making them difficult to run.
Across foodservice, there’s a growing need for products that can work in more than one setting. These pies are designed to be dependable and versatile: suitable for food-to-go, but also presentable enough to serve as a plated main. They add something different to the range in a way that’s practical, not novelty-led.
